Time to Go Back to School?

You know it is time for the kids to go back to school when you witness the following...
___________________________________________
OLDER SON: Dad, I'm bored.  What are you doing?

SLAMDUNK:  Well, I am about to set some ant traps up in the laundry room to battle our unwanted summer visitors.

OLDER SON: Neat.  Hey Sissy? Sissy?

His four-year-old sister, "Sissy", appears from another room.

SISSY: What?

OLDER SON: Wanna watch ants crawl into the bug traps Dad bought?

SISSY:  Sure.

OLDER SON: Ok, you get the flashlights and I'll pull two chairs over.

I wasn't sure whether to offer them popcorn or not.

FYI: Dont worry about those two, school starts this week for the older boy and next week for his sister.

I love the picture of them watching ants get trapped. Summer is about that too.

We return to school two weeks from today.

I had to laugh at this. Why buy kids expensive gifts when they can go watch ants? :)

Fun article; thanks for posting it.

Wow...I didn't know kids could STILL find ants fascinating on ANY level other than a VIDEO GAME...LOL.

Amazing.
You raised you marvelous children!

Keep up the great work!
(and yeah, make 'em some popcorn...what the heck)

If you had filmed it, I could have shown that to Lukas for his first ever movie. Popcorn and all.

Oh my gosh! We got tons of ants here. They could set up a whole village. LOL!

I think they need an ant farm and to go back to school.

Too funny!

Be happy that watching ants die is entertainment for them. If it's not electronic, it's not entertaining to my kids.

If I was the teacher and asked, "So kids, what was the most exciting thing you did over the summer?" Think your kids would answer "ant watching"? Just a thought. Thanks for the chuckle :). Hope you and family had a great summer while it lasted.

Ants...we had a flurry of them at the beginning of summer. Tiny black ants. UGH.

I remember that feeling when something as simple as watching ants visit the ant trap was uber-interesting! Good for them. :)

kathryn said...

That's having fun the old-fashioned way! I'd forgo the popcorn...it'll just attract more ants!

carma said...

seriously though, aren't those traps incredibly effective? I had to use them last spring when somebody left his lunchbox with plenty of jelly residue sitting right at the doorstep.

Within a day those buggers were gone.

Guess you could have videotaped it and they could have watched it over and over next time they're bored...with popcorn.

You really need to expose your kids to more of the outside world....outside.:-)

LOL! Hooray for back to school!

I guess it's good that they enjoy nature, right? LOL!

It is fun to watch and listen to children dialog -- I remember my brother had an ant glass case. It kept us out of mischief while we waited for dinner to be ready. Looking back - my mother was pretty clever buying that for us.

They grown up so fast enjoy them while they are young and eager to learn.

cheers,
Joanny
