Status Updates at 55 mph?

I apologize for my lack of commenting on other blogs as of late and for my snail like responses to emails--I hope to be back to full steam by May.

Anyway...

When I rode the school bus as a teen, I remember the middle-aged driver kept one eye on the road and the other eye on what the thugs were up to at the back of the bus.

I think the following driver would be one eye short for that approach:

Police arrested a Trumbull school bus driver after they say she was caught on surveillance camera texting while driving the bus.

Evelyn Guzman, 47, turned herself in to Trumbull police Wednesday.

Between April 6, 2010 and May 15, 2010, Guzman sent and received 1,068 text messages while driving the bus full of school children, police said.

Detectives launched the investigation after the arrest of Guzman's daughter in May 2010. The daughter, Jennifer Davila, 24, was charged with assaulting a special needs student on her mother's school bus. Davila worked as the bus monitor.

It was while investigators were reviewing surveillance video from the alleged assault that they realized Guzman had been texting while driving, according to police...

I like what one of the commenters said:

"Rough math here, 1068 texts in 6 weeks is 178 a week, 5 days a week is 35 a day..."

I wonder if she has a blog with incredible content, or simply offers detailed play-by-play opportunities to follow her work day via FB status updates or less than tantalizing Tweets?

Wow. There are plenty of low paying jobs that don't pay shit where it is actually okay to eff around all day. If that's what you want to do, please don't take a job that involves the safety of children. Or of anyone, for that matter.

That is so shameful.

Why does this NOT surprise me, and why is that WRONG on about a DOZEN levels?
Back in my day, we had all these people who TOLD us things...and WE listened...and hled them in RESPECT.
Like the schoolbus driver, the TEACHERS, APRENTS, POLICE, even "our elders".
And that never seemed to hurt ANY of us.
You track back, and you can see the seeds of the changes we are privvy to TODAY stem from the early 1970s...
And it's gotten worse ever since.
Little by little...bit by bit.

Our kids are exposed to enough trouble without THIS.

Excellent post.
Have a great weekend.
Stay safe.

That is terrible. What the hell.

This shit is getting out of control. I dont know if you remember hearing not too long ago about a couple trains that crashed? it was due to the conductor texting while driving the train.

What the hell are these people thinking?

All this technology is a blessing and a curse - sometimes seems mostly a curse.

Aw..that's nothing...

we coppers text while driving..while typing on the computer...while talking on the radio...while flipping radio channels...while listening to music...while operating lights and sirens...while talking to our supervisors on speaker phone...

Doesn't everyone? LOL

Poor lady...they were a little hard on her...driving kids around and all.

Ok...so being sarcastic isn't one of my strong suits.

Glad the kiddos were OK.

SD, I feel I should take up the job of a bus driver, sounds more exciting.. And I get as many texts as she does in a day in 6 months.. Now you know who is more popular.. :( And after a while reciprocity is just a word, everyone is got to do what they got to do.. !
Enjoy!

Yeah, I saw this and was horrified!! Not only due to the texting, but the abuse as well. WTH?? Of course it was a special needs bus, which made me even more upset. I'm guessing that's why the driver thought she'd get away with it. Grahamie is on a bus now- SCARY!!

Now that would be something if she had a blog with incredibly content. I have a feeling that was probably not the case. Shame on her and her pathetic daughter!!
